Foto-Maja: a wedding photographer’s website with local pages and online ordering

Wedding photographers compete locally, town by town, and couples choose by galleries and recommendations. On top of that, Foto-Maja wanted to sell photo prints, calendars and albums online.

Project background

About the client and the market

A wedding photographer doesn’t sell to a whole country. They sell in the cities where they work, and couples search for “esküvői fotós Szeged” or “esküvői fotós Baja”. They decide on the basis of galleries, wedding stories and recommendations.

Weddings are seasonal. That is why Foto-Maja also wanted a second source of income: photo prints, calendars and Fine Art albums that customers can order online all year round.

The challenge

What needed solving

  • Several cities, each with its own searches.
  • Galleries that are heavy but have to be fast.
  • A seasonal business that needs income outside the season too.
  • A Hungarian-language site for the market in Hungary.

The solution

What we did

We built a Hungarian-language site with wedding galleries, separate pages for Szeged, Baja and Kecskemét, a blog with stories and advice for couples, and a WooCommerce shop for photo prints, calendars and albums.

  • Wedding galleries (FooGallery)
  • Local pages for Szeged, Baja and Kecskemét
  • A blog with 23 stories and tips for couples
  • Online ordering of photo prints, calendars and albums (WooCommerce)
  • Quote request form (Ninja Forms)
  • Yoast SEO

In detail

How the solution is set up

Local pages

Separate pages for wedding photography in Szeged, Baja and Kecskemét, with local keywords and photo locations in each city.

Galleries and stories

Wedding galleries and a blog with 23 stories and tips build trust and bring in searches such as “where to take wedding photos in Szeged”.

A shop for photo products

A WooCommerce shop for photo prints, calendars and Fine Art albums brings in income outside the wedding season too.

Wedding enquiries

The quote request form asks for the date, venue and type of service, so the photographer knows straight away whether they are free.

Process

How we worked, step by step

  1. Cities and searches. We identified the cities and searches the photographer wants to be visible for.
  2. Galleries. We set up galleries that load quickly, on mobile too.
  3. Local pages. We built a page for each city with local content.
  4. Shop. We set up online ordering for photo products.
  5. Blog. We publish wedding stories as both portfolio and SEO content.

Visibility in Google and AI search

Blog stories with specific locations and advice for couples are the kind of content AI tools use when someone asks in Hungarian about a wedding photographer or venue in the region. Specific places and venue names make the answer verifiable.

Where it stands today

What is on the site today

What the site holds today:

  • Local pages for three cities
  • 23 articles on the blog
  • A shop for photo products

We don’t publish enquiry figures without the client’s consent.

Lessons

What you can apply to your own project

  • A photographer working in several cities needs a page for each city.
  • Wedding stories are both portfolio and SEO content.
  • A shop for photo products adds income outside the wedding season.

FAQ

Questions about the Foto-Maja project

Yes. Foto-Maja is a Hungarian-language site, and Hotel Fantastico has a Hungarian version too.

Yes, through WooCommerce: photo prints, calendars and albums.

Couples search for a photographer together with the name of the city. A page for each city covers those searches.

They don’t have to. Galleries load progressively and in optimised sizes.

Key lessons

What Foto-Maja shows about websites for photographers

Foto-Maja is an example of a site that has to do two jobs: sell wedding photography in several cities and sell products all year round. Those two goals need different pages, a different tone and a different path to purchase.

What turned out to matter most

  • Galleries that load fast. Couples choose a photographer by the pictures, so Foto-Maja shows large photos in a modern format without slowing the site down on mobile.
  • A separate page for every city. A search for “esküvői fotós” with a city name leads to a page about weddings in exactly that city, with examples from local venues.
  • A web shop for the rest of the year. Photo prints, calendars and Fine Art albums bring in income outside the wedding season.
  • A blog of wedding stories. Every article is both portfolio and content that ranks.

The Foto-Maja site is in Hungarian, which shows the same approach works outside Serbia too. If you are a photographer, artist or small studio, have a look at website development, local SEO and online shop development. Google explains how to optimise images for site speed in its web.dev guide to images.

For Foto-Maja we also prepared a content plan for the next season, so that new wedding stories go out regularly rather than only when there is time between two shoots.
