What SEO is and why it matters

SEO (search engine optimisation) is the work that gets your website onto page one of Google for the searches your customers make. When someone looks for “web design Dublin”, “inflatable pools” or “forklift servicing”, the decision is made on page one. Most people never click through to page two.

Unlike ads, an organic ranking is not paid for per click. Once you have earned it, it brings in visits every day, at night and at weekends, with no extra cost per visit. That is why SEO is the most cost-effective channel in the long run, and also the channel that needs patience and a system.

In 2026 SEO is no longer just a Google page with ten blue links. Customers get answers in Google AI Overviews, ask ChatGPT and Perplexity, and search by voice on their phones. So we run our SEO service as SEO, AEO and GEO together: the same website needs to rank, to be picked as the direct answer and to be cited by AI tools.

Who needs SEO

  • Service businesses (repair services, tradespeople, clinics, law firms, agencies) that want a steady flow of enquiries from their own city or the whole country.
  • Online shops that want their categories and products to rank without paying for every click.
  • Manufacturers and B2B companies whose buyers search for exact product, material and application names.
  • Businesses already spending on Google Ads that want to depend less on paid advertising.
  • Businesses that work in several languages, for example Serbian and Hungarian in Vojvodina, or English and German for export markets.

What working with us on SEO looks like, month by month

Month one: audit and plan

We start with a detailed SEO audit: technical health, indexing, speed, page structure, content, links and competitors. We research keywords and group them by intent: commercial, local and informational. The result is a 90-day plan with priorities ranked by their impact on sales.

Months two and three: technical fixes and key pages

We fix the technical issues holding the site back: duplicate pages, slow templates, wrong canonical URLs, the sitemap and redirects. At the same time we optimise the most important pages: service pages, categories and the homepage. This is usually when the first ranking movements show up.

From month four: content and authority

We write new pages and guides for searches you do not cover yet, build internal linking and work on authority: quality links and mentions on relevant sites, your Google Business Profile and reviews. Every month you get a report and a plan for the next month.

Ongoing: measurement and adjustment

We track rankings, organic visits, enquiries and sales through Search Console and Google Analytics 4. We put more into what brings in business and change what does not work. SEO is not a one-off project, it is a system that keeps improving.

Technical SEO: the foundation everything rests on

If Google cannot read your website easily, even the best copy will not rank. In the technical part we check and fix:

  • loading speed and Core Web Vitals (LCP, INP, CLS) on mobile,
  • indexing: which pages Google sees and which it should not,
  • the XML sitemap, robots.txt and canonical URLs,
  • 301 redirects, redirect chains and 404 errors,
  • the structure of URLs, titles and internal links,
  • structured data (schema): Organization, LocalBusiness, Service, Product, FAQ, Article,
  • security, SSL and mixed content.

We have published the full 30-point list in our guide Technical SEO checklist.

Content that ranks and sells

Google ranks pages, not websites. So every important service, category and location needs its own page, written for people and clearly structured for search engines. A good page answers the customer’s question in the first paragraph, shows proof (examples, reviews, numbers), explains the process and ends with a clear call to action.

Alongside service pages we write guides that reach people while they are still researching and lead them towards your offer. For Bazeni Akcija we published 374 buyer guides this way, and for Mali Oglasi Vojvodina 101 local guides.

Local SEO

For businesses that work in a particular city, local SEO is often the fastest route to enquiries. We set up your Google Business Profile, build a system for collecting reviews, align your name, address and phone number across directories and create pages for the towns and districts you serve. Take a look at Dream Cleaning, with 59 pages by service and location, and our guide Local SEO and Google Business Profile.

Authority and links without the risk

Links from other websites are still one of the strongest signals Google uses. But not all links are equal. We do not buy packages of a hundred links and we do not use site networks, because that brings a short-term jump and a long-term risk of a penalty. We work with relevant sites, portals, directories and partners in your market, and we create content people want to cite.

SEO, AEO and GEO: optimising for AI search

Everything we do for SEO we also prepare for AI search. In practice:

  • AEO: short answers at the top of pages, questions as subheadings, FAQ schema, and lists and tables that Google and assistants can pick up easily.
  • GEO: consistent company details on your website, Google profile and social media, brand mentions on relevant sites, original data from your projects and an llms.txt file.
  • Technical: a robots.txt that allows the AI crawlers you want, and content that is visible without JavaScript.

What you get every month

  • a report with rankings for the keywords that bring in business,
  • organic visits and enquiries from search, page by page,
  • a list of everything done that month,
  • a prioritised plan for the following month,
  • a short call or meeting when needed.

All accounts (Search Console, Analytics, Google Business Profile) are in your company’s name. We get access, and the data stays yours.

What the scope of work depends on

There is no single package that suits everyone. The scope of SEO work depends on:

  • how strong the competition is in your industry and location,
  • the size of the site (ten pages or a thousand products),
  • the technical state of the site at the start,
  • the number of languages and markets,
  • how much content you already have and how much needs to be written.

After the free SEO audit you get a proposal that says exactly what we would do and why.

The most common SEO mistakes we see

  • one “Services” page for everything instead of a separate page for each service,
  • a website that takes longer than 4 or 5 seconds to load on a phone,
  • a redesign without 301 redirects, after which the rankings disappear,
  • product descriptions copied from the supplier,
  • a Google profile with no reviews and an old address,
  • links bought from sites that have nothing to do with your industry.

What you can realistically expect: the first 12 months

SEO is not a switch, it is a process that builds up month by month. The exact pace depends on the competition, the history of the domain and the state of the site, but for most businesses we take on it looks roughly like this:

PeriodWhat we doWhat you usually see
Month 1Audit, tracking, technical errors, keyword planSearch Console in order, the first report, a list of priorities
Months 2–3Optimisation of the main service or category pages, internal links, the first new pagesMore pages in the index, movement for less competitive searches
Months 4–6Content for customers before they decide, local SEO, the first quality linksGrowing impressions and clicks in Search Console, the first enquiries from organic search
Months 7–12Expanding into new keyword groups, updating content, authorityMore stable rankings for the main searches, organic search becomes a steady source of enquiries

In very competitive fields (legal services, property, large online shops) the road is longer. In niches with little serious competition results come faster. We talk about this openly straight after the first audit.

SEO or Google Ads: a comparison

The question we hear most often is whether it is better to invest in SEO or in ads. The answer depends on how quickly you need enquiries and how long you plan to keep going:

SEOGoogle Ads
SpeedResults within a few monthsEnquiries from the first days
Cost per clickNo payment per clickYou pay for every click
When you stopRankings stay for a long timeTraffic stops the same day
TrustMany customers trust organic results moreA “Sponsored” label
ControlGoogle decides the positionYou choose the searches, the timing and the budget
Best forA long-term, steady source of customersA fast start, seasonal peaks, new products and testing

For most businesses a combination works best: ads bring in enquiries straight away and show which searches really sell, and SEO wins those same searches over time without paying per click. More about ads on our Google Ads page, and you can run your own estimate in the SEO and Google Ads calculator.

On-page SEO: what we check on every page

Every important page goes through the same checklist before we call it optimised:

  • Search intent: whether the page matches what the customer is really looking for (information, comparison or purchase), not just whether it contains the keyword;
  • title and meta description: clear, with the main keyword and a reason to click on you rather than anyone else;
  • H1 and subheading structure: one main topic, with logical subheadings that cover the customer’s questions;
  • content: detailed enough to answer the question better than the pages currently ahead of you, without padding;
  • internal links: the page gets links from related pages and leads on to the service or the contact page;
  • images: compressed, with a descriptive file name and alt text;
  • structured data: Organization, LocalBusiness, Service, Product, FAQ or Article schema, depending on the type of page;
  • speed and mobile display: Core Web Vitals in the green, with no elements jumping around while the page loads;
  • call to action: phone number, form or buy button visible without searching for it.

SEO for different types of website

Service websites

The key is a separate page for every service, a clear service area and proof you can be trusted: past work, reviews, certificates. The most important searches are often local, so alongside classic SEO we also do local SEO.

Online shops

Categories carry the buying searches, products the exact models, and guides the searches people make before they decide. The biggest technical challenge is filters and duplicates. More detail on our page SEO and advertising for online shops.

B2B and manufacturing

Few searches, but each one is worth a lot. We build technical pages for models and specifications and measure the quality of the enquiries. More on our page marketing for manufacturers and B2B.

Portals and content-heavy sites

On portals with hundreds of articles and listings, the biggest job is structure: categories, tags, internal links and removing thin pages that waste crawl budget. We run a site like this for Mali Oglasi Vojvodina.

How to choose an SEO agency

There are plenty of SEO offers out there, from “page one in 30 days” to packages with hundreds of links a month. These are the questions we recommend asking any agency, including us:

  1. What exactly do you do every month? A good answer is a concrete list of tasks, not “we work on optimisation”.
  2. How do you measure success? Rankings are useful, but organic enquiries, calls and sales matter more.
  3. Where do the links come from? Mass directories, PBNs and bought links can lead to a penalty. Ask for examples.
  4. Who owns the accounts and the content? Search Console, Analytics and everything that gets written should stay yours.
  5. Can you show real projects? Websites that exist and that you can check for yourself.
  6. Do you guarantee the number one spot? If the answer is “yes”, that is a bad sign. Google does not sell rankings.

We have written a more detailed guide in the article How to choose an SEO agency.

Google algorithm updates and how we track them

Google changes its algorithm all the time, and several times a year it announces bigger updates (core updates, spam updates, helpful content). After every major update we check our clients’ rankings and traffic and look for the pattern: which pages dropped or climbed, and why.

The best protection against updates is not a trick. It is content that genuinely helps the customer, a technically clean website and links that were earned, not bought. Sites that work this way usually come through updates without big drops, and often gain from them.

Individual SEO services

You can also take each part of SEO on its own: answer engine optimisation for direct answers in Google, generative engine optimisation for ChatGPT and AI search, local SEO for Google Maps, and a free SEO audit as the first step.

FAQ

SEO services: questions and answers

SEO is an ongoing process. The first changes in rankings usually show after 2 to 3 months, and steady growth after 6 months, depending on the competition.

Nobody can honestly guarantee a ranking, because Google alone decides. What we guarantee is a clear plan, transparent work and monthly measurement of results.

Access to your website, Google Search Console and Analytics. If you do not have them, we set them up.

Yes. Categories and products are the strongest entry pages of an online shop. We have worked on shops with more than 1,200 products.

Yes. Alongside classic SEO we prepare pages for direct answers in Google (AEO) and for citations in ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews (GEO): short answers, FAQ schema, consistent company details and llms.txt.

For less competitive local searches sometimes within a few weeks, for competitive terms usually 4 to 8 months. We give you an exact estimate after the audit.

Yes. In most cases we optimise the existing site. We only suggest a new website when the current one is so outdated technically that fixing it would cost more than building a new one.

Everything we have done stays with you: the pages, the content, the technical settings and the accounts.

SEO is a set of technical, content and authority improvements to a website that increase its visibility in Google for the searches that bring in customers. It covers site speed and technical health, content and page structure, local SEO and quality links.

The cost depends on the size of the site, the competition and the scope of work, so we do not publish it as a package. After the free audit you get a concrete proposal with a list of tasks.

The basic technical optimisation can be done once, but competitors and Google keep changing. That is why ongoing work gives the best results: new content, updates to existing pages and building authority.

Backlinks are links from other websites to yours. They are still one of the important signals of authority, but quality is what counts, not quantity. One link from a relevant, well-known site is worth more than a hundred directory links.

Yes, especially local SEO. A small business with a good Google Business Profile, reviews and service pages often gets more calls from Google than a much bigger company that neglects them.

Ask for access to the Search Console and Analytics accounts and track organic clicks, enquiries and sales, not just rankings. A good agency tells you clearly every month what has been done and what comes next.

Search Console is a free Google tool that shows which searches your site appears for, how many clicks it gets, which pages are in the index and which errors Google sees. It is the basic tool for any SEO work.

Website optimisation

Website optimisation: what we actually do

Website optimisation is the part of SEO that deals with the site itself: speed, page structure, titles, internal links, technical errors and content that answers customers’ questions. Without a solid foundation on the site, neither links nor ads deliver their full value.

When we optimise a website, we start with an SEO audit: we check indexing, Core Web Vitals, duplicate pages, schema markup and the keywords the site already has a chance with. Then we build a prioritised plan, so the changes that bring in visits and enquiries fastest get done first.

SEO does not stop after the first month. Website optimisation keeps up with new searches, new products and changes in Google and AI search, so every month you get a report with rankings and the next steps.
